For Future Foster Carers

Why should you become a foster carer?

Thinking about fostering? Why Care works with your Local Authority to help you get ready.

If you’ve thought about fostering, you already have what matters most. You want to make a difference to a child, and you’re ready to stick with them on the hard days as well as the good ones. Everything else can be learned, and we’ll help you learn it.

Why Care works with your Local Authority to help you get there with confidence. You’ll go through your Why Care Assessment alongside a small group of others taking the same step, working through real-life situations that show what fostering is like day to day. Your social worker will be with you throughout, and on the Why Care platform you can see your progress and shape your assessment together.

We know you’re keen to start, so our assessment is designed to get you ready for panel in around 4 months.

Approval isn’t the end of our support. Throughout your application and first year you’ll have a Fostering Mentor, an experienced foster carer to turn to. You’ll have 4 training days to build your skills, and regular group supervision with other new carers who know exactly what you’re going through.

You start sooner, you’re supported from day one, and a child gets a home that lasts.
